First of all, thank you for your moral support and compassion and condolences!
Let me comment on some of your ideas before I move on with my plans.
1- I would never release anything without having bought copyrights license. Perhaps I could get away with it but apart from it being too immoral/unethical for me it would not save me too much.
I mean, ok, I would save about 2,500$ which means I'd save 5$ per dvd copy, ok? And instead of 27-28$ I could therefore sell at 22-23$.
Well, I DON'T THINK THIS WOULD CHANGE ANYTHING AT ALL!
I recently cut all my retail prices down to 30-50% as you know.
Result? SALES GOT WORSE.
So, it's not really a matter of cheaper prices.
Maybe I should just keep that 2,500$ and not lower prices at all?
Yes, but that's still unethical and I just can't sleep peacefully knowing I'm illegal and next morning I could find myself in deep shit.
2- I could team up with some other label perhaps, ok?
And share costs and expenses. But still, what makes you believe there would be profits?
I want to share profits, not costs.
Destribution sucks not only for me but for all labels, right?
I don't know of any label flourishing and having profits.
Besides, I'm not so bad a person to want to drag people to MY hell.
3- Release other stuff, other countries?
Naaah! Italian films suck sales-wise.
Only porn and Holywood do well, but then I would never try these genres, would I?
FINALLY...
I got quite a few films lined up for future release.
Films I've already bought:
TARZAN KORKUSUZ ADAM
MASKELI UCLER
CASUS KIRAN 7 CANLI ADAM
ALTIN COCUK
ALTIN COCUK BEYRUT'TA
CICI CAN
RINGO GESTAPOYA KARSI
KILINK...??????
This means I'll be around for at least a couple of more years or more till I gradually and slowly release everything and sell everything.

None of these answers surprise me. But I still think you could team up with someone. There are other people out there with passion to do what you are doing. I would, if I had the means to do it. And I wouldn't care a whit about profits. I'm sure I'm not the only one, and I'm sure one of those crazies has some money to burn! Anyway, I can't wait for each and every release. If it's only those listed, well, that's a treasure trove in and of itself and we should all be thankful that they exist at all. Thanks again, Bill, for everything you do.
Hi, sad news all this!
But, I´m curious to know why you buy all these rights, instead of using the money to release a new DVD instead? What good is it to have the rights to 10 films, when you have no money to put it on DVD? Why not just take it one right, and one dvd at the time?
This is better news, Bill. I'm glad Onar will not die, at least not right away. And maybe by the time you've gotten all of those things out things will be getting better.
Have you considered marketing to sites that sell Turkish movies and merchandise? Maybe you could be able to find more sales selling through outlets such as these. Just a thought.
Hopefully by now my school has ordered some of your DVDs, too, either from you or one of the US places that still sells them. The lady in my film center said she would, so if she hasn't already, it should happen soon!
Stay strong, Bill. We are behind you!
Why not try some classic Turkish porn (no recent crap!) or at least some erotic movies. There must be some good ones. I'd rather see those than yet another Tarzan or Superhero movie to be honest.
JARED
Thanks for your lovely interest buddy BUT if you consider that ALL labels suck sales-wise and ALL online stores suck too (with most of them closed down already) then it's a dead-end.
JON
Good question.
But the reason I buy in bulk is simple: COMBINED PURCHASES-LOWER PRICES.
I bought many of them a few years ago when things looked happier and more dynamic.
Now, it's the end. NO MORE PURCHASES AT ALL, UNLESS THE MARKET IS RESURRECTED SOMEHOW AND I SEE MY SALES PICKING UP TO AN AMAZING EXTEND (which sounds pretty April Fool's Day-ish).
JOHN
I tried that too but no answer at all. Total indifference.
Besides, almost all of them are in Turkey where I'm not permitted to sell.
And IF they were "fanatically turkish" they WOULD/SHOULD have contacted me FIRST, but noone ever did!
CANDELA
I'm not into this genre.
I've made a name and I'm connected to CULT stuff.
EVEN if I decided to switch to porn/erotic I'd lose my faithfull buyers.
Ok, I would get tons of new, porn-fans,but as I said, I'm doing this for my personal fun not for any profit.
Now, it's not fun nor funny anymore so I'll have to stick around till I get rid of my stock and my unreleased films and that's it.
Team up with MONDO MACABRO! That would become the coolest brand around! I love your releases and love Mondo Macabro's ones, I would be in heaven!
Good luck with your company and I will try to support as much as I can!
2 suggestions:
(1) Market heavily to Turks living outside of Turkey (Germany, for example).
(2) Add subtitles in more languages, maybe Spanish, French and German. The German-speaking countries love buying esoteric cult films and many of their labels are doing well.
Best regards,
--Volker
Thanks docvoltage,
BUT:
1- How exactly would I market heavily on those Turks?
There are lots of forums and sites in turkish language that talk about me already.
2- Adding more subs would cost me MORE money therefore I would have to RAISE the price of the dvd's, making them more avoidable.
People find them TOO EXPENSIVE already, ignoring the fact they're in 500 copies ONLY.
Remember I'm selling dvd's BELOW COST PRICE, for 8 Euro and still noone buys them!
It's just that people prefer to DOWNLOAD them, which is FREE.
And this, because some motherfuckers UPLOAD them!
I'll make you an offer: the next DVD you do, I will translate your subtitles into German for you for free. I'm completely fluent in both German and English.
If you like them, use them, if you do not, throw them away.
Then, if you sell more DVDs, great! If not, it has cost you nothing.
I'd be glad to help if you think that can sell more DVDs.
Dear docvoltage,
I really appreciate your kind offer!!
You're the first man who does this particlar offer.
However:
1- Adding subs is very complicated. You must work with a special subs programme and you must also watch the film at the same time because lots of errors are done is translating by just working on a text.
2- This will enourage more downloads. Now, some germans say "naahh, it's not in german, so why download it?".
But, if it's in german too 100's of more bastards will rush to download it.
3- Most important, I hate accepting such big favours. Besides, I'll get a bad repuation that I'm a beggar and produce dvd's having people working for free for me.
4- I still believe things wouldn't change a bit. I MIGHT get 10-20 new buyers and instead of selling out in 66 years I would sell out in 65.
IF people like this kind of films then english subs are more than enough.
p.s: why I'm saying I'll sell out in 66 years:
Take Kadin Dusmani.
I've sold 100 copies 8 months after its release, but:
Now I sell about 1 copy per month!
Later on, it'll be 1 copy per 2 months and then per 3 months.
With an average of 1 copy per 2 months/6 copies per year, the remaining 400 copies will be sold in 66 years.
And if I speak about KARANLIK SULAR...God! There are still 900 copies unsold. At the same rate as they are, I'll sell out on them in about 150 years...
